About LIAS

My Story

I'm a paranormal romance author - yep, that's me! I've also written fantasy romance, urban fantasy, coming-of-age NA, and romantic suspense. And what do I read in my spare time? Thrillers :) So, yes, I'm a bit of an odd mix. And what am I doing editing books? Well, I founded Luna Imprints Author Services (LIAS) to provide affordable author services to indie authors like me. Reading and hearing horror stories about editors made me want to jump in and provide a reliable service that's focused on helping out new and existing authors, and growing their confidence in writing while also working out the kinks in their stories.

Back in 2015, when I first started off on this long, exhausting, highly rewarding and amazing journey of writing, I was extremely lucky to run into a mentor who taught me the art of book editing. I'd taken writing courses and read countless books on writing over the years, but never did I have someone actually put everything together in a way that made sense. My mentor did that for me. The countless dollars and hours I invested in follow-up editing courses to improve my skills for my own books only enhanced and honed that knowledge. And in the end, that's what I strive to do every day for my authors through LIAS. Editing is my business, yes, but it's also my passion, because I love helping and teaching, so you can save yourself money down the line.

The LIAS Story...

This whole endeavour with LIAS started off initially as a beta reading service in 2017. After finding many beta reading services lacking and hearing of struggles within the author communities to find legitimate avenues for proper feedback, I found I was really good at developmental editing. So I took some courses, read more books, and went off on my own and opened my own shop, charging a simple flat fee for my time and the editorial report I provided with each book. Authors kept telling me they'd never had such in-depth feedback, and some had paid thousands of dollars for editors! And what kept coming back in their feedback was how they felt seen and heard when it came to their stories, and learned skills for the long-term. You could say that over the years, I realized my focus is not only on making stories better, but on respeecting the author's voice and where they want the story to go...and judging by the testimonials, I've managed ok so far. :)

To say I was amazed at the results with my first few clients would be an understatement. I started helping out bestselling authors and writers who did this for a living! It was and still is rewarding work, made even more rewarding by testimonials from clients like Kristina Adams, author of the chick lit series What Happens In... and Hollywood Gossip, who says, "What Alexa suggests never feels dictatorial either; it’s a two-way conversation where we bounce off each other to solve the problem." That's why I do what I do - not to change your story, but to help you find a way to make it even greater than it is, by zeroing in on the little hiccups and offering solutions. To this day, my beta reading package remains a popular service, outsold only by my developmental editing service.

Over the years, anything from chick lit, to fantasy, to thrillers, to dystopian, romance or paranormal landed on my plate at LIAS, and little by little, the purpose expanded as clients demanded more. I chose to focus on genres I am most familiar with, to ensure you get the best bang for your buck, which is why you'll see I focus on fantasy (urban fantasy, epic fantasy, paranormal women's fiction, I'm a sucker for new worlds!), literary fiction, and romance (be it paranormal, contemporary or suspense, I love seeing a love story develop). And because I always want to ensure the best quality of a novel for you, I'll never take on a story that's not yet ready to be edited. Best of all, knowing how expensive editing can be through my own writing journey, I offer discounts for returning clients and lower costs per word when you do more than one edit (i.e. dev edits and a proofread), which amounts to huge savings for the regular indie author.

As I continued to grow and learn as an indie author myself, my mission has expanded to offer editorial services, formatting and various marketing add-ons like keyword and category visibility, and newsletter set-ups. I continuously strive to provide efficient, great quality service that also focuses on the individual customer needs. And, at the end of the day, I want your book to be its best version - ever. Nothing makes me happier than achieving that! You can read more about my qualifications/experience via my resume here, or just ask me! I promise I don't bite.

Because precision counts.

Hi there! My name’s Eldon and I handle the formatting of printed books and ebooks here at Luna Imprints Author Services. I have a wealth of experience formatting everything from the most basic to the highly complex, and would love to show you how good your book could look. Why do I do this when there are template based solutions on the market? Because attention to detail is important. And if you’re honest with yourself, I think you’ll agree you’d rather your book stand out then look exactly the same as so many other books out there. Templates are great, but they can’t replace the human touch.

And that’s what you get with LIAS – the human touch. Whether it’s a developmental edit, a proofread, marketing support, or the final polish of formatting, we guide you along your journey to help you steer clear of the rocks.

Let me put my years of experience to work for you and help make your book shine. You’ve carried it this far, you don’t fumble the ball on the one yard line. Yes, I’m also an NFL football fan :)

And then there's me!

Hello! I’m Caroleen, and I am a junior editor for Luna Imprints Author Services. Like many other editors, I have always had a knack for correcting punctuation and grammar, so in 2020 I started working towards the completion of the Editor’s Certificate offered by Simon Fraser University. Most recently, I have worked as a Digital Editorial Assistant for the Lion’s Roar Foundation and as an Editor for The Urban Writers. Outside of my role at LIAS, I work as a freelance non-fiction editor and am the Exhibition Reviews Editor for The Journal of Dress History. My educational background is quite varied as I have a BMus and BA in flute performance and fashion history respectively, as well as an MA in museum studies.

In my spare time, you’ll find me knitting, cross stitching, practicing flute and piano, visiting museums, and going on nature walks.

More to come...

As is the case with most businesses, LIAS continues to expand. You can rest assured that the quality of the service you'll receive will always be the same across the board, because all the members of our team undergo the same in-depth training. Our focus is to help you, and always want you to feel at home with us!

In addition to Eldon and Caroleen, you'll probably also run into the lovely and super-helpful admin, Sabrina, who handles client inquiries, contracts, invoices, and social media, and helps keep us on track. She's camera-shy, but we're hoping to get her bio up here soon!
